charities
Gateway Pro Tour strives to not only provide a competitive arena for potential PGA TOUR golfers; it also maintains a strong commitment to giving back to the communities in which they play. The Tour has generously donated more than $350,000 to various charities since its inception in 2002.
Phoenix Children’s Hospital
The Phoenix Children’s Hospital was the first charitable organization affiliated with Gateway Pro Tour. Tour members generously donated their time by touring the facility and visiting with young patients who were eager to meet a professional golfer. The Tour also donated an outdoor putting green for Braeden's Playground, an on-site 4,500-square-foot outdoor play area that patients and their siblings can utilize during their stay in the hospital.
Boys and Girls Club of Phoenix
Gateway Pro Tour partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix to provide golf-learning clinics that would positively impact the lives of young people by teaching life skills and character education through the game of golf. The Tour also donated more than $10,000 worth of golf equipment to the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix.
Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation
Gateway Pro Tour grew significantly when it absorbed The Golden Bear Tour in 2005, which was based in West Palm Beach, FL. Gateway Pro Tour continued to make annual contributions to the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, which had been the designated charity of the Golden Bear Tour.
Police K-9 Units
In an effort to help keep the communities safe where we live and play, Gateway Pro Tour has donated several working police dogs to departments in need across the country, including the Phoenix PD, Jackson County Sherriff Department and the Des Moines PD.
Variety – The Children’s Charity
Gateway Pro Tour and Variety of Iowa formed a partnership in 2007 when the Tour decided to host its Tour Championship at the Legacy Golf Club in Des Moines, Iowa. Through pro-am events and sponsorship dollars, the Tour was able to make a contribution of $25,000 to Variety, which funded the purchase of a 15-passenger van (Sunshine Coach). Variety - The Children's Charity Sunshine Coach Program helps to fill a great need - to provide transportation to children - among agencies.
Mercy Medical Center
Through our affiliation with Variety – The Children’s Charity, Mercy Medical Center jumped on board as our Presenting Sponsor for our 2008 & 2009 Tour Championship. Gateway Pro Tour continued its fundraising efforts and has currently donated $40,000 to Mercy Medical Center.
Prostate Cancer Projects of Arizona
Prostate cancer is the most diagnosed non-skin cancer in men and the second cause of cancer death after lung cancer. During this year alone 4,300 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in Arizona and some 700 men will die from the disease and yet most Arizona families have a low level of awareness to the risk of prostate cancer. Our 2006 Sidney Frank Memorial Tour Championship raised money for the Prostate Cancer Projects of Arizona.
We are confident that with the support of our sponsors, fans and the general public, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of others through the game of golf.
