The Gateway Tour is excited to announce that, for a third-straight year, the Mountaintop-Gateway Collegiate Players Invitational will be held at Golfweek Magazine’s No. 1 ranked new golf course in 2008: Mountaintop Golf and Lake Club.

Set in the pristine mountainous region of northwestern North Carolina, the limited-field event, slated August 8th-10th, 2010, has quickly gained the reputation as being an elite tournament for collegiate golfers gearing up for the U.S. Amateur and their fall semesters of school. With uncompromising hospitality from Mountaintop Golf Club and it’s membership, as well as a truly special golf course awaiting players in the Tom Fazio-designed layout, as the Tour’s Executive Director, Charley Yandell, states, it’s easy to see why The Mountaintop-Gateway Collegiate Players Invitational has become a quick favorite among collegiate amateurs after just the event’s first two years.

“We’ve been very fortunate because Mountaintop Golf Club and its membership have really taken ownership of this event in a short period of time,” said Yandell. “That’s of course the first key ingredient to providing a great tournament to these players. But, add to that the opportunity to hold an event like this on one of the best courses in the country, and what we have the perfect make-up to truly provide a special opportunity to aspiring collegians.”

“We’re looking forward to having another great event in August, and we’re once again proud to host the players for a great week in Cashiers before they head back to school.”

Similar to its format from last year, The Mountaintop-Gateway Collegiate Players Invitational will begin with a Member-Collegian Stableford event on Sunday, August 8th, with a member-mixer to follow. The tournament will then commence with 54 holes of stroke play on Monday August 9th (36 holes) and Tuesday, August 10th (18 holes), with an awards ceremony immediately following the conclusion of play.

Full details of The 2010 Mountaintop-Gateway Collegiate Players Invitational are as follows:

- Entry Fee: $300 (see below application for full payment details)

- Registration deadline: July 1st, 2010

- Field size: Limited to 30 players

- Host family housing is provided for all participants

- Continental breakfast and lunch are provided each day

- A custom trophy will be awarded to the winner and gift certificates will be given to the top three finishers.
